Random Holidays

This week in addition to it being Spring Break -- and in the midst of building a fence from early morning until the kids' bed time some nights -- we celebrated some of our favorite holidays.

We had pie on Pi day (3-14). Katherine and her group of friends got into a competition a year or two ago and started memorizing digits of Pi. She knows over 50 and Michael has now learned a little about Pi and knows about 18 digits. Katherine's competitive friend Casey learned closer to 100 last year, but this year as he was rattling them off in math class Katherine had to correct him at about digit 38. She was both proud and embarrased once she realized what she'd done.

Needless to say, with kids this into Pi, we had to acknowledge Pi day. I had found mini pies on sale and had put them in the freezer ahead of time. They were a fun treat, and I didn't have to actually make a pie on Monday which was good!

We also celebrated St. Patrick's Day on the 17th. Katherine (with some assistance from Sarah) made us Green Eggs and Ham, Green Juice, Green Butter for the Toast, and we used Green Salsa from a friend to put on the eggs. Katherine and Sarah had walked to the store the day before and bought all of us green straws to add to the festivities. It was a great meal and great fun. Then Katherine painted the little kids' faces with green paint while James and I worked.

The other holiday of the week that should get it's own post is our 15th Anniversary! We plan to celebrate more in about a month, but for now we enjoyed spending the day together as a family. We had mostly finished the fence so we were able to relax a little. James made me Eggs Benedict that he had tried for the first time on his business trip the week before. He watched YouTube videos and learned how to poach eggs and found a Hollandaise Sauce packet and got the other ingredients. It was a fabulous breakfast with flowers too.

Even though it is fun to dream about going away on some romantic vacation for our anniversary, I think that we enjoyed working on the fence in someways more. We have always been a great team. So often lately we are dividing and conquering which also works, but we work well together and love to work together. The fence was a great reminder to us of that. We are blessed to be equally yoked.
